The
Hotel Consortium is able to supply either a traditional premise based property management system or a web based property management system

Premise based PMS
This is a system where a server is located on the hotel premise and all transactions are then local to that server.
Suitable for larger properties and/or where significant local IT knowledge readily available.
This includes
- Check in
- Check out
- Additional postings from POS, Call accounting, vending etc
- Web based inventory matches local inventory
Advantages are :-
- No reliance on external (broadband) connectivity
- Data stored locally so minimized data protection issues
- Interface data is local and can be serial or IP
Disadvantages are :-
- Local backups need to be made by local staff and stored offsite.
- Web based and local based inventory need to synchronise regularly
- Local hardware to be maintained including UPS and air conditioning
Web based PMS
This is a system where a server is located on the offsite premises and all transactions are then made via that server.
Suitable for smaller properties and/or or where little/no onsite IT expertise available.
This includes
- Check in
- Check out
- Printing
- Additional postings from POS, Call accounting, vending etc
- Daily reports including arrival, stayover etc
Advantages are :-
- Low cost, low spec PCs can be used as dumb Web terminals
- No local hardware or backups need to be made
- Inventory is web based for all customer and staff so always up to date
Disadvantages are :-
- Reliance on Broadband connectivity -
99% broadband reliability still means 7 hours downtime a month !
Manual processes required then to produce key reports ie arrival, stayover.
- All interfaces have to be converted to IP which is significant point of failure.
